Mrs. Butler's science classes have been learning how geologists determine the age of the earth using both relative dating and radio metric dating. First they used skittles to simulate radioactive decay of Skittleumnium,a radioactive element. By graphing their data, they were able to estimate the half life and use that to find the absolute age of their fossil. Then they were able to demonstrate how relative age is useful in dating layers of sediment. The best part was eating their fossils containing Skittleumnium.
