Happy New Year! ....technical difficulties prevented prior postings
I trust your holiday season was fantastic and your New Year has started off well. We have picked up right where we left off prior to break with challenging academics mixed in with some fun. Thanks to PTSA for providing the 6th graders to a performance by a troupe of Chinese acrobats. It was an amazing exhibition of discipline and athleticism......Our students that swept the MLK Essay contest represented us well at the Bartow Civic Center.....Environmental Symposium students traveled to Bok Tower to research their Monarch Butterfly project, they impressed the staff in a big way!.......Mrs. Campbell's 8th graders wrapped up a fantastic semester with the Shark Tank finale!!.... Good Luck to our Boys' and Girls' soccer teams this season and thank you to all the coaches for stepping up to the plate.........We also had a visit from Lakeland Leadership and the Polk County School Board last Friday our students and teachers did a phenomenal job illustrating what LCMA is all about. I think the biggest take away from visitors is that our young people continue to provide hope and faith for the future despite the negative rumblings and highlights the media likes to depict.....Algebra students have been planning a dinner dance justifying their income and expenses with graphs and equations.....Geometry students have been studying points of currency and will be using the centroid to create a unique toy......7th grade science has spent the last 2 weeks exploring the theory evolution with a virtual field trip to the Galapagos Islands and a lab activity simulating bird beak adaptations.....8th grade science has been investigating Physical and Chemical changes and have modeled the law of conservation of mass and collected data on the effect of temperature on a chemical reaction....6th grade math classes completed their Order of Operations unit with a calendar project. They also researched 5 famous mathematicians born in their month, along with 5 historical events....they had a blast competing to top each other with their equations!.....Creative Writing students have been studying the objectives, obstacles, and motivations of their characters as they presented scenes from the “Ten/Two” play series. The next step will be writing an original extension of their scene including dialogue and stage directions. Some have also been busy writing essays/poems for Lakeland Sister Cities Young Artists showcase (in conjunction with Harrison) on the topic, “Peace Through People.” Others have been busy writing articles for our next newsletter. Coming soon is the district poetry contest! Best~ Brian J. Andrews Principal |
