Dear LCMA Family,
You may have read the article in yesterday’s Lakeland Ledger that celebrated the efforts of Kathleen Middle School as they prepare their students for standardized testing. We join in their celebration of academic growth and wish them continued success. We are all members of the Polk County Schools Family! In that same endeavor, I want to assure you that Lawton Chiles Middle Academy continues to strive for excellence and that our student data is evidence of that! I feel that is important that you are aware that the article misrepresented our students’ performance outcomes. In reality, Lawton Chiles continues to outperform in every area mentioned in the article and is unique in that we offer additional HS/Accelerated courses such as Earth/Space Science, Spanish, Algebra and Geometry courses that have no comparable data. We are also cognizant of the whole child and offer more Elective options than any other school in the district. In addition to providing the district mandated curriculum and standards, our teachers also provide parallel IB Units. This is quite a challenge, yet our teachers routinely arrive early and stay late to provide only the best experience for our students. I stand proud of our accomplishments and I am grateful for the amazing teachers and students who work tirelessly each day to achieve stellar results. Did I offer peace today? Did I bring a smile to someone's face? Did I say words of healing? Did I let go of my anger and resentment? Did I forgive? Did I love? These are the real questions. I must trust that the little bit of love that I sow now will bear many fruits, here in this world and the life to come.”
