In Creative Writing/Drama classes: 6th graders completed their “fake news” stories by taking a fictional story and turning it into a news report, 7th graders completed their original children’s books that will be shared with local elementary schools, and 8th graders put the final touches on their short stories. All classes used their U.S. history knowledge of the 1920’s while watching the original Broadway cast of 2002’s “Thoroughly Modern Millie.” Topics such as the 18th and 19th Amendments (prohibition and women’s rights), inventions and the influence of jazz music, and white slavery/human trafficking have been discussed while watching the performance. Comparing and contrasting events from 100 years ago has been quite enlightening!.....
Geometry students are learning the basics of right triangle trigonometry and Algebra classes are beginning their study of quadratic functions. Environmental Symposium students visited the Holocaust Museum. It was a very somber but meaningful opportunity for our students to listen to first-hand accounts of survivors, reflect on the past, and use this information to shape their futures.... Mr. Thomas's Science 7th graders will be modeling Radioactive dating.Eighth graders our having a Solar System party next Friday. They will be modeling the phases of the moon using Oreo cookies..... Currently in Mrs. Sitta’s advanced classes, students are making connections between mathematical equations and the Law of Conservation of Energy. Using the data gathered from a simulation, students will be able to confirm the location of their community and the height of a possible tsunami modeled in the simulation.... Sixth Grade World History students are embarking on a research adventure! They will be learning about how Roman achievements impacted our lives today. They are working on research IN CLASS and will be creating a interactive display of their findings.Seventh grade Civics students have been learning all about the Judicial System and how courtrooms operate. We also enjoyed a great field trip to the Polk History Center last week! The 8th grade U.S. History classes are acting out the territorial acquisitions of the United States from 1803-1853. Students are enjoying playing their parts and seeing history come alive! Fantastic Art happenings... Students are painting wood canvases with fruits or vegetables to decorate the Bistro. 3D students are creating cardboard portrait reliefs. Students are creating ceiling tiles that relate to the IB Learner Profile traits. Students painted the IB Learner Profile traits on the Bistro wall. Go LCMA! Comments are closed.
