Thanks to all who came to the meeting on Monday night. For those of you that were unable to make it, in addition to speaking to your kids, please visit the Learning Common link off our website for additional detailed information. Remember, this is all about empowering, enlightening, and inspiring our students....to believe in themselves and to believe they can make others' lives just a little bit better. Ask your 7th grader about the Hot Air Balloons in Global Tech! Or your 8th grader about Google Cars!Mr. Jones had a guest actress this week in his class this week reading a play. Oscar worthy?? Go Knights Athletics: girls basketball and x country!! Be the best you can be.... Sukria~ Brian J. Andrews Principal Happy Friday!
****Look out Boys' & Girls' X Country Teams!! Both took 1st place in the opening meet this week at Holloway Park. Thanks so much to both Coach Bergdalls' for their leadership. Another fantastic week of learning @ LCMA......next week is Celebrate Freedom Week and students will be learning about the Declaration of Independence through their Individuals and Societies classes.
Love the one you're with! Brian J. Andrews Principal Dear Knights,
I hope everyone felt the power of the human spirit throughout today's 9/11 Ceremony. I was so proud of the students today. The firefighters and police officers all let me know how special today made them feel. It was beyond touching for them to see the students' respect and admiration for what they do each and every day. The support of the Lakeland City Officials was humbling and uplifting for me and I look forward to further collaboration in the future. Thanks to the Band and Chorus for doing a wonderful job in opening and closing the ceremony. Mr.Gerlich and Mrs. Rogers did an amazing job assembling all the beautiful flags. Thank you to PTSA.... Kim Jeffares and Shelly Robinson for their "Remembrance ID Badges"...in which all students and staff wore the name and bio of a victim of the attacks. Very powerful. And it all started due to a small suggestion from Mrs. Bland. It was a true Knights Team effort all around!! From the academic end, we completed our first round of writing testing this week. Students and Staff are all pros on this now, and any kinks were quickly resolved. Instruction and Learning are in full force when we are not testing...... Girls' basketball had their try outs this week and we had an incredible turnout! I'm proud of all the girls, particularly with the winning attitudes I saw on display. Thanks Coach Thomas for volunteering and giving all the girls this opportunity. Check us out on FACEBOOK! Enjoy the weekend~ From the Heart~ Brian J. Andrews Principal “Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children.”
Hey Knights-
What a terrific week two @ LCMA! We had a few student centered systemic changes this week that are working out quite well. I want to thank you all for the understanding and support. I couldn't be more pleased with the care and concern all of you have for your children. You can always trust that the students' safety and growth is why we come to school each and every day. The PTSA held a very productive first meeting on Tuesday. I enjoyed sharing my ideas and vision with all the parents. More importantly, I appreciated the group's ideas and suggestions to make this the best school in Florida. Thank you PTSA for your volunteerism and partnership with us. When we put our kids first, anything is possible! Buzzing in classrooms this week we had Mrs. Gadd's classes debating the Flat Earth Theory vs The Spherical Theory....leading to learning how to think as a scientist and validate theories based on the 6 criteria of science. In Mrs. Wiseman's SS classes, 6th graders learned about the continents and oceans....one activity was "World Twister"....played out on the rug map. Mrs. Hill and I had fun doing this as well with the kids! Check out Facebook! Mrs Butler's science classes designed an experiment using a paper whirligig.....the students collaborated to manipulate variables, trade procedures, and compare results. Awesome. Mr Jones' Creative Writing/Drama classes have wrapped up their writing with the Summer Reading books and participated in learning the "Nine States of Stage". Good stuff. Mrs Patient' Spanish classes created their Quizlet accounts this week as well. Ms Mathews' math classes used the smartboard extensively this week which included classification of real numbers. Nice work! Mrs. McDaniels' classes were working creatively with the Night Gardener in class, involving plot diagram, characterization, they created some super visuals as well. I trust you all have a quality long weekend with your family~ Takk~ Brian J. Andrews Principal Dear All,
