Civics classes recently wrapped up our unit, "There Oughta Be a Law" by creating a one day agenda for the President. We are now exploring the judicial branch by answering the question, should schools limit online speech. Students are using the Constitution and Supreme Court cases to back their opinions......Last week the orchestra hosted a Barrage 8 workshop and was followed by a community concert in Bartow in conjunction with Barrage 8.....Our 8th graders in Individual and Societies are currently working on a project about the first five presidents. Students have been doing research and are preparing to create museum exhibits. We are calling this the “LCMA Hall of Presidents.” We have reached out to Jayme Jamison with the Polk History Museum, and she is going to come and give our students a presentation on the role of a museum curator and preparing exhibits. We are looking forward to our museum “Hall of Presidents” days later this month......8th grade Science recently created scale models of the solar system and we are beginning to prepare for the Science FSA on May 2nd. 7th graders recently analyzed models of Earth’s Interior using M&M’s and Milky Ways....Geometry students competed to see who could create the best “spinning toy” using the centroid of a triangle. The prize was an old fashioned gyroscope.
Algebra students just finished the “Let’s Dance” project where they made recommendations to Mr. Andrews for ticket prices for a school dinner dance.... The Beginning Emerging Tech class is finishing up a unit where the students created online Canva posters depicting the two Learner Profile traits which best fits their personalities. Next we will be studying "augmented reality" while using the Aurasma application. The Advanced Emerging Tech students are placing themselves into the role of App Designers. They are researching, designing and developing apps directly aimed at tweens and teens, 11-14 years of age!....Sixth grade World History Students have been studying Ancient Rome's changes in government. They are also learning about time lines and completed a fun group activity in which they studied the history of LCMA and created a large timeline on the floor. Research projects are coming soon!....Odyssey of the Mind regional competition is Saturday, February 18 in Dunedin, the Environmental Symposium class has both teams in the Final Challenge of the Lexus Eco Challenge. LCMA is raising money to fund important research in Leukemia and Lymphoma this month, with a goal of $3000.....Congratulations to the MathCounts team who took first place out of 24 middle schools at Saturday’s competition at Tenoroc High School. LCMA students also earned seven of the top ten spots in the individual competition out of about 140 students. Satvik Gunjala placed 9th, Joshua Flores 7th, Aaryan Dhaduk 6th, Kevin Chen came in 5th, Agastya Mittal was 3rd, Vraj Patel placed 2nd and the number one competitor was Sachin Satvikumar.
